Made from the highest quality vine-ripened Italian tomatoes and olives. In having to build a system with hundreds of motors to service the many conveyors, there were many aspects to consider: energy efficiency, wiring simplicity, space required on the site and by electrical panels, quick maintenance, ease of cleaning and integration into the factory network.

Barilla decided to adopt an architecture based on intelligent gear motors distributed along the entire packaging area conveyor system, and integrated into the factory control network. More than gear motors and decentralized drives are distributed along the entire conveyor.

Because they are mounted directly onto the conveyor itself, the wiring is significantly simplified, notably reducing the space taken up on the line by electrical panels. All the decentral drives have been networked and integrated into the PLC, which continuously acquires the operational status of the units, based on energy consumption. Inaugurated in October , the new plant will produce Italian sauces and condiments.

The plant has the capacity to produce 60,t of sauces annually. The average daily capacity of the plant is t of tomato-based sauces and 50t of pesto-based sauces. The plant will initially produce 35,t of sauces per year. The sauces and condiments produced at the plant are targeted at Italians who are increasing looking for ready-made alternatives. Sauces produced at the plant will also be exported across the world with the aim of promoting Italian cuisine.

Fast-growing markets such as Brazil and China, where Italian cuisine is very popular, are being targeted by the company. The plant is located in the northern Emilia Romagna region in Parma state, Italy. The region was chosen as it produces some of the best quality tomatoes in the world. The raw materials used at the plant, including tomato and basil, are grown within a few kilometres from the Rubbiano region.

This ensures that the freshest ingredients are used for production. It has been designed to be one of the most advanced, productive and energy-efficient plants in the world. Energy efficiency was a top priority while designing the plant.

The technology ensures that the texture, colour, freshness and natural flavour of the ingredients are maintained. Barilla opened a pasta processing plant and distribution facility in Avon, New York, in
